Let me tell you the best kept secrets about relationship. They are amazing. A few hard things about relationships are, you have to have good communication with each other, if you don't communicate things will be hard. You need to have respect for the person too.
I don't mean to imply that relationships will be easy because they aren't. But you can be the best things if you are committed and happy. It is also good that the other person if happy too.
Talking behind their back is something that could end that relationship. I know from experience and I wasn't the one who was saying stuff behind their back. You should have a good friendship too.
I have collected a brief list on do's and don't about creating successful relationships.
DO: With family, you should get along and if you don't then that isn't a good relationship.
DON'T: Take advantage of the person the you are in a relationship with or have a relationship with, life is too short, why not take thing into consideration and enjoy them.
DO: Do nice things for the person, take them out to eat or take them to a place that the enjoy going to, it doesn't always have to be a date either.
DON'T: Cheat. If you are in an intimate relationship, don't cheat on the person. It hurts them and it can hurt you too. It could also give you a bad reputation.
DO: Listen, if you listen to a person they a more willing to talk to you because they know you care and know that you want to hear what they have to say.
DON'T: Ignore them, you could end up losing that person. Yeah maybe a little time and space from that person could be helpful. But don't just stop talking to them and once you start talking to them, don't expect them to be nice and accept you back like you had never left.
DO: If you compliment the person you have a relationship with, intimate or not. They would probably be more willing to be around you but don't let them take advantage of you and them only want to be around you JUST because you compliment them.

I think you did amazing on this. You got mostly all of the dos and don'ts I could think of when it comes to relationships. Yes there's more to relationships than what you said but you got the most important things I think!

I fell like respect comes into play when it comes to family. I love my family, I respect my family. Everyone that comes into my life is my family or at least I'd like to consider that.

This is completely true. All of these things are good in a relationship. A relationship works when both of the people are committed and they actually care about each other.
