My Favorite Mistake

My favorite mistake is probably a common one. The mistake was smoking weed for the first time. Making that choice has caused a lot of things to happen in my life, most of them not good things. It's affected me, my family, and other people in my life.

I was hanging out with one of my good friends, just hanging out and playing video games. We hung out a lot, almost every day. This day was different. I made a decision that was going to affect me for years, and it is still affecting me to this day. It has never stopped causing me trouble.

That day, I decided to smoke weed. At the time I had mixed emotions about it. Part of me knew that it was a bad idea and I should've made the choice to leave or just tell him I didn't want to do it. The other part of me thought it couldn't hurt anything and it wasn't a bad idea. Guess which part of me one? Right. I made the choice to do it.

My friend's brother would smoke weed all the time, so we knew he would have some. We played video games while we were waiting for him to leave. We waited about ten minutes after he left just to make sure he wasn't going to come back.

As soon as we knew he wasn't coming back, we went upstairs to his room. We started going through his drawers, closet, and just about every place we figured he would hide it. Sure enough, we found it, along with a pipe. We loaded the bowl and started smoking. We had no idea what we were doing. Somebody probably would have laughed if they saw. We eventually got the hang of it.

When we were done, we went downstairs to get food. (Just like everybody else that smokes weed.) After I did it, I felt kind of bad but I got over it. I just didn't think about the bad things, I just made the best of it.

I started doing it quite a bit after that. My friend and I were always stealing it from his brother or finding other ways to get it. Eventually, I found myself doing it almost every day. I was never thinking about the bad things, just looking for the high. I wish I would've thought about it and stopped before I got myself into trouble.

Although I regret that choice, I'm glad I did it at the same time. My life might have been better if I didn't do it but I wouldn't be as smart. I've learned a lot from everything that I've been through. I wouldn't be the person I am today if I didn't make that decision. I had my fun but now I know that that's not what I want to do with my life. It's time to grow up and move on with life.

My Favorite Mistake

I grabbed my extra merch money, my ticket, the keys, and went to get Maya. She was surprised when it was me driving, but didn't ask any more questions after I explained. I guess she was equally as determined to attend the concert as I was.

The drive up went smoothly, though we both sweat the whole time with worry. The concert was just as we expected and we had an uneventful drive back in a car full of two extra kids in need of a way home and all the purchased band merch. I was completely happy and carefree... Until I got home.

He was waiting by the gate when I pulled up. My dad. Something you need to know about his wrath is that it's 10x worse than my mom's. I was strictly grounded for the first time in my life for one whole month. No phone, no friends, no tv, no outside privileges. I wasn't even allowed to go when the family went bowling. Everyday it was wake up, go to school, come back, do homework at the kitchen table, go to my room until dinner, come up, eat, shower, brush teeth, bed. I literally did nothing. It was different, since before when I got grounded my parents were lenient and it didn't feel like I was really grounded at all.

Needless to say I never did anything equally as extreme again. That emo concert was not worth the aftermath, and I learned how serious my parents' punishments could be. This is definitely my favorite mistake. It was the beginning of the end of my extreme stage.

My Favorite Mistake

My favorite mistake was getting bored in church. Now don't get me wrong and assume I don't like church, I love it! In fact this mistake taught me how to love it.

I was an eleven year old girl, who got bored very easily. The Saturday before, I had gone to my friend's birthday party! It was a "bug-themed" party and the goodies were bug shaped candy, bug glasses, and 3 neon stretchy snakes. I brought it all except the glasses to church! Today was fast and testimony meeting and I was anxious and bored beyond comprehension. My back was hurting along with my legs and I could not stay focused.

My neighbor, Sister Curtain was bearing her testimony. She was crying and expressing her love and joy, which seemed a silly thing to me at my age. To cry over joy. A strange thing it was to me.
So I sat there in the back corner of the comfy seats with my family, trying to respect my neighbor and listen. "Ugh! This is so lame!" My thoughts said. "Your legs and your back hurt Aspen, why don't you get up and walk around." I often got up and walked around the halls during sacrament meeting due to pain and restlessness. "No! I like Sister Curtain, and I WILL stay and listen!”

So I stayed and tried to listen. I failed.

I got out one of my neon snakes from the party and started to play with it. I wanted to wrap it around my wrist and tie it in a bracelet.

"Almost there." I thought "Almost there."
Whoosh!

I watched in horror as my snake sailed over the rows, high in the air. I watched in mortification as the snake smacked Sister Curtain smack dab in the face! She stopped crying abruptly and  looked down at the snake in shock.

Everyone in the congregation turned around simultaneously to see who had just flung that snake. I turned around too, pretending to be in shock wondering what nincompoop had just done that!
Sister Curtain finished her testimony, perhaps swifter than planned, but it ended good. I sat in shame feeling the looks from my parents waiting for me to make apologetic eye contact. "Nope." I though. "Not gonna look." The heat from there stares got worse. "Okay okay!" I looked over and gave them my best apologetic, embarrassed, "I'm-really-sorry-I-did-that-look-at-this-angelic-face" look.

My dad looked at me disapprovingly with a grin forming. My mom smiled her accepting "you're-my-daughter-and-I-love-you-no-matter-what" smile.

After the testimony meeting was over, Sister Curtain's so brought my snake over! That was the most embarrassing moment of my life! (At least at age eleven). She knew! She knew it was me! What was I going to do?!

I took the snake without making eye contact.

Later Sister Curtain walked by knowingly and gave me a smile. I was alright after that;however, this created new resolve. I was going to find a way to sit through an entire sacrament meeting if it was the last thing I did!

I did find other ways. Food, gum, coloring books, play dough, even walking around in reach of the speakers. I learned to love sacrament meeting. All it took was mortification to it's finest for an energetic, eleven year old girl named Aspen.

My Favorite Mistake

My favorite mistake was running away from my last program. As difficult and stressful as it was. I was able to really learn a whole lot about myself and the people I once surrounded myself with.
I was 17, completely unaware of the direction that my life was headed, careless and very fearless when it came to anything, except confrontation.

I was sitting in my fathers huge, lavish home in Pearland, TX with him yelling in my face telling me I was a bitch and would end up an uneducated stripper "just like my mother" , that I "should go ask for an application at "Micheal's Gentlemens Club", the same place my mom sacrificed her self respect to put food on the table as a single mother, when I was 3 years old.

This was the third and last home visit before Judge Noonan would send me to live with him for good in just a few short weeks after returning to my loving Foster home in American Fork. The move was set in stone. There was no going back. Legally.

It was then and there when I made the decision that no matter what, I would not tolerate being treated so anymore. I was burning with anger, hurt and very quiet about it. It was easy for me to hold it in and disappear, as opposed to standing up for myself, being a woman about it, and addressing the problem, finding other alternatives.

Running away taught me many things. Mental, physical, and sexual abuse isn't something that happens to "other" people. Forced overdose, dying then thanking God for another chance doesn't just happen to "other" people. Watching people get blasted, and being at gun point is, as well, more common then many may think. My Favorite Mistake is running away because it opened my eyes. It was a reminder that it's up to me whether I CHOOSE to live that way or not.

Had it not been for this experience, and in a way, blessing, I wouldn't be where I am today. Graduating on time. Getting a job at Vivint.  (If they accept my request for an interview lol) Applying to UVU next year. On a hella fast path to success.

My Favorite Mistake

I  coughed, the smoke clearing out of my lungs and making my head spin. "Its okay. Is it your first time smoking a cigarette?" asked Brandi while she put her hand on my arm to steady me from the nicotine buzz. My ten-year old eyes looked up at her with guilt, then looked down in shame thinking why am I doing this again. "Hey it's okay, I still like you", said Brandi as she cupped her hand on my cheek while giving me a warm smile. Now I remembered as I looked up into her face. I returned the smile and attempted another drag, this time I was more successful. I flicked the ash off of my cigarette as we continued our forbidden smoke.

Hello, my name is Arian but people call me A.J. This is the story of how I got introduced to smoking. I met Brandi in my fourth grade year at Cherry Creek Elementary. I was sitting alone in the lunchroom contemplating if I should eat my mashed potatoes and gravy or just throw it away and join the other kids in a game of soccer when all of a sudden she walked in. Now I don't know if it was my addled ten-year old brain or if she was that pretty but let me tell you my heart skipped a beat. She has brunette, olive skinned, and curves where God intended them. For some odd reason she decided to plopped down on the seat right next to mine. So she introduced herself as Brandi, said she was a sixth-grader, and that she would like to be my friend. So we got to talking and started hanging out with each other during school. I've noticed that the other kids kept their distance and I wondered why, so I kept my suspicions to myself. Then I find out why they kept their distance...  because she smoked.

We stood in the alleyway that separates the school gym and the Springville Museum of Art. She took me straight there to her "secret" smoking spot when the bell for recess

sounded throughout the halls of Cherry Creek Elementary. We bolted out of the lunchroom doors, skipping lunch altogether, and cut through the parking lot to get to the smoking spot. We snuck by successfully, although the janitor did glance our way when we ducked into the alleyway. When we were safely concealed in the alleyway she took out her pack of Marlboro Red 100's took one out and list it. She took a drag and demonstrated to me how to smoke a cigarette. What she forgot to mention is that I have to inhale the smoke slowly for my first time and ended up having a coughing fit.

My Favorite Mistake

I was being takin away again, getting assault charges, and starting all over. I had wasted everything I had worked for, over some stupid girl. I had been in the system for over three years they just real eased me one month before I blew it.

Her name was Madison, she kept talking crap at school and flirting with my man. She honestly did anything she could just to piss me off. One day while I was eating lunch with my friends Madison started talking crap on me and my Family, no one talks bad to my family and gets away with it.

As the days past she just kept on saying things, until she pushed me way too far she told me that she was going to kill my little brother.... Seconds later I was on top of her pounding her face in, I blacked out and just kept beating her until I couldn't see her move anymore.

Two days my caseworker showed up and told me to pack my things.... She was taking me again. I was so hurt to be torn from my family again. I learned that violence is not the answer but I had taught her a lesson and also showed all those who thought I could just be pushed around.

I also know that deep inside I just wanted to show people that I could beat her ass, that I was more than they saw. My caseworker took me to Vantage Point and about a month later she found a home for me to go to. Two years later I am still in that house and on my way home hopefully soon.

My Favorite Mistake

I'm only human. Not every one is perfect and I'm one of those people. While walking to school I got sliced by an old friend and trust me it was not fun. But that's not the main point. The main point is that I had a problem of ditching everyday.and choosing friends

Walking to school with my girlfriend I saw a couple of my friends at the skate park. Me and my girl went over there to say what's up. They asked us if we wanted to ditch with them. Well we really didn't want to go to school so we said yes.

About an hour latter I had pulled out my pocket knife to show it to my friends. They asked if they could see it so they can decide if they wanted to buy it. After they looked at it for 5 minutes they said no but when I tried to get it back they wouldn't give it back to me so it tried to get it back by force. After not being able to get it back me and my girl started to walk to my house.

After walking about 2 blocks I looked behind me and I see one of my friends following my and yelling something I can't make out. I started to walk away and then my girl says that he's running after us. I said just keep walking and she did then the next thing I know I'm on the ground. I got up and realized that my friend tripped me. I just kept walking then he tripped me again so I got up and I started to hit him. He then pulled out the knife and started to swing and it got me on the stomach. He then realized. What he did and he started to run away like a puss.

After the fight I started to walk home. While I was walking I thought to myself and said I'm never ditching again and that is what I learned from that experience.  Some say it might have been bad luck but I think it was karma. You know how it goes do bad thing and bad things happen and do good thing then good things happen. That what happened to me I ditched and got hurt and got locked up. Now I'm going to school every day and I haven't got locked up since. So don't be like me.

So now I know how to chose my friends because I don't what that to happen again. Now I have good friends that don't steal from me. After that I try to stay away from all that drugs and knifes, so this is my message to you don't be like me and ditch because I'm lost in school.

My Favorite Mistake

Have you ever had to start out somewhere new without your family? I have and it's been one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I decided to risk losing everything and everyone I love just so I could have a few good nights with some negative friends. I hope while reading this it helps you understand why it's important to put your family before any of your friends.

It's 12:34 a.m on a warm Summer night as I lay in bed listening to music as my cellphone starts to ring. I look at my phone and it's my best friend Vivian. I answer with excitement "what's up?" "Nothing much just out driving around with Justin, Kayden, and Gage. Do you want to come chill with us? All come pick you up!" I go silent for a moment to think about the consequences but before going into complete thought I answer "hell yeah come get me all be ready in five minutes."

I get dressed in comfy legging an a sweater before heading down stairs. The house is completely silent as I slowly walk down the stairs and out the back door. My heart keeps pounding faster and fast. I can't help but be nervous because if I get caught being out tonight I will be breaking probation and lose all my trust. That can't happen I kept telling myself. Finally I get out the back door without anyone hearing a single sound. I take a deep breathe and walk out front to find Vivian in my drive just like she said she would be but in a different car than she usually drives.

I open the passengers door with a smile on my face. "I have missed you like crazy Viv." "I've missed you to Ky, get in!" I get in and all my worries begin to slowly fade away. It feels amazing to get out with all my friends again. As were driving alone the long dirt road i decide to ask " who's car is this anyways? Oh and does your mom know your out tonight?" "Kylie don't ask to many questions now it's gonna be fine this is Deavon Toblers car. His parents are away for the weekend so I decided we could borrow the car and have a little bit of fun our selves!" I agree with her this night was our chance to have fun.

We pulled into my driveway at 5:53 a.m I no longer was scared of getting caught so I walked up my stairs with a smile on my face and no worries. I kept replaying everything we did in my head over and over again until I finally dosed of into a deep sleep. I woke up at 1:32 to my  moms voice telling me we had a probation meeting at 2:00 and that I need to be ready in 10 minutes.

I stood up super fast and got dressed and combed my hair. We showed up a few minutes after 2 o'clock. I walk in with a smile on my face "hello Donnie." "Hi Kylie sorry for the inconvenience I just had to talk to you about a few different thing. You know how you are supposed to be on house arrest until you finish all of your hours?" "Ummm yes, why?" "Well I guess since you know your on house arrest you wouldn't risk sneaking out would you?" I can't believe it she has to know what happened last night but how? My heart starts to beat fast and I can feel that I'm started to get warmer and warmer. I started talking again hoping she won't notice my long pause before reply.  "Donnie you know I wouldn't sneak out I have way to much to lose! You already told me that if I mess up again I am getting sent away."  "Kylie you know what you have to lose but you snuck out and got into a stolen car? I don't think you even care about your consequences do you? Your going to detention for a 30 day period than you'll have court."

I am now sitting in a 5 by 5 cell thinking about how much my life is going to change. I can't believe I risked everything for that stupid night I mean yeah it was fun but now when I go to court it's going to look horrible. I have already made my judge and family so mad and disappointed . What is my judge going to do I kept asking myself.

Finally 30 days has past! Today is a chill September  afternoon as I ride in the back of a van in shackles as we drive 25 minutes to see my judge. I am so nervous I can feel my stomach tighten and rumble. It's a horrible feeling to know you are no longer going home even after doing you detention time.

We arrive to my court at 12:45 we wait in the hall for 15 minutes as I hear the police officer say "Kylie Thompson please come upon the judge." I want to turn and run but instead I  slowly walk to the front and sit in a chair next to my mom. The judge goes of my case and talks to my probation officer. Once he made up his mind he asked me to please stand and hear my sentence. I stand up to hear what he has to say knowing it going to be horrible , but hoping for the best. " Kylie Thompson you are sentenced 45 days in Genisis Youth Center in Draper Utah. Depending on your behavior there you will either be placed in a girls group home or Procter care than I will see you February 18 good

I try to stay strong and not shed a single tear, but once I turned to see my mom all my tears began to fall. When I looked at her all I  could see is the disappointment in her eyes. I never thought I could hurt my family as much as I did that day.  They lost all there trust in me but that wasn't even the worst part of all of this.

3 months has past by and I am now in a Procter home. I am finally doing well and have a clear head. I have thought a lot these past months and realize what I want in my life thanks to stealing that car. Yes it was one of my worst but favorite mistakes. The reason this is my favorite mistake is simply because it actually taught me something.

I am about to introduce you my fellow reader into a short story of a section of my life. In this story there will be a lesson I had to learn. And I learned it the natural way, the hard way. The natural way is the hard way because it's a lot harder to learn things through trial and error, that be forewarned, or gently reprimanded by someone who cares.

It all started, one day while I and my grandparents, cousin, and uncle went to either Disneyland or Lagoon theme park, and I was eight or nine years old. It was a family get together. And an early birthday surprise.

We got on one of the rides that spins you right round, right round, and upside down and all over the place. Before I got on the ride I kind of noticed my shoe was a little loose, but decided to ignore it and got ride the ride.

While I was on the ride my shoe flew off my foot and clubbed the man on the other arm of the same ride, right behind me. I burst out laughing until I saw my shoe fall to the ground and almost bean a women on the ground below. I saw her pick it up, shrug, and throw it in the waste bin next to her.

Once I got off the ride I went down to the trash can and searched but my shoe was filled with puke and garbage. My uncle said, "It's just karma, and rightful learned poor mojo— natural consequences."  What he meant by this at the time, was that if I had only took the time to tie my shoe I would have still had a shoe because it wouldn't have flew off my foot.

I had that day learned a valuable lesson. That laziness, doesn't just affect the lazy person, but those around them, with whom they interact. I also learned  to pay attention and don't always allow yourself to get caught up In the moment—use consequential thinking! You won't always have people telling you that things will end badly— sometimes you'll just have to find it out the hard way, the natural way... trial & error!

My Favorite Mistake

I my be a good rule follower but I have my moments when I don't fallow them. I grew  up fallowing rules. I hated getting in trouble but every body know no one is perfect even if they act it but like others I got grounded for stuff that I think is stupid but it never last longer then one month. Not yet at less.

When I was in seventh grade perfect grades then one day I blew up and I just left school and went home. The school called my dad and when he got home he was mad means he grounded me.

A couple days later I got grounded again. After I was ungrounded I got home from school and my step sisters locked my sister out I got mad at them because my sis was crying so I tried to unlock the door and they wouldn't be so I shoved them out of the way and unlocked the door I then got my phone and started to call my dad but my older step sister took it and I yelled at her to give me my phone back. She wouldn't so I left the house to go to my cousin and she came out to stop me but I throw her on the ground and threaten to hit her if she wouldn't leave me alone. When my dad got home I was grounded for a month.

Every night at three in the morning I would sneak out and go to my cousins house to hag out with him and no one knew I was sneaking out so I would be out for four hours because school started at seven forty five and it took me five minutes to get to his house. One night I left and for got to turn my alarm clock of and I always had it on full blast to wake me up. So I left and two hours later I got a phone call from my dad and he was pissed of asking where am I.

After school I went to my moms to avoid him because he is one of the only things I'm scared of. He never hit me or laid a hand on me but he would yell at me and I thought and still think it's worse the being hit. It's harder to get over and takes longer to heal

I think I've learned a lot about what is wrong and what is right and I know I'll still get in trouble here and there when I graduate my program and will I'm still in it but you can never remove curiosity even when no one acts on it.

My Favorite Mistake

Well my story starts in 2012 when I met this girl at Talorsville high school every thing was good things started to get pretty real in our relationship. It was like we were more than in a relationship it was like we were married in a way. We did every thing together and well I'm sorry to say this now but I was in love with her. While every thing was going so good she ended up pregnant and no that's not my mistake I'm glad that I'm having a son. But we kept it going for a while and well I ended up catching her with other that I called my friends at the time. And I caught her drinking witch I couldn't watch her do that to herself while she was caring my son so I told her if she wants me to stay that's he has stop drinking because it's not just hurting her anymore it could end up killing our son well I caught her three more times so I felt like she didn't even care what I thought so I left and her. And boy did I pay for it she made sure that I can't see my son be born and no my sons not the mistake he's a blessing she the mistake I would have chosen anyone else to have me son with but her I did everything for her and she just screwed me over.

Yeah I did my stuff to but that was after I left her. I ended up robing some people and ended up in detention in salt lake where I stayed for 46 days. When I went to court I got a community based placement with a suspended order to decker lake. So now I'm here at summit trying to get a job so I can save money for my son. And hopefully I never go back to drugs or gang bangin because I would never want to see my son go down that path. I took that path and it's not a good one for anyone.

So this story is about one of the best relationship turning into the worst break ups in my life

I woke up  showered to hopefully wake myself up got dressed then decided to get breakfast from sonic I thought I lost my wallet so I was upset but I found it I paid for my food then realized the time I rushed out the door hopped on the bus and headed out for the day little did I know today was going to be the worst day of my life.

I know I wasn't perfect some of the kids started talking to me today about how my girl was thinking about breaking up with me I just brushed it off like it was nothing. little did I know it was a big something.  I was confronted about how she was planning the break up. Now let me mention I had over a million thoughts rushing through my head After I finally woke up I decided to walk to class.

I got a 100 on my test that was great I guess I was trying to avoid the inevitable but you can never think about something then it changes someone's mind so I decided to just sit back do my work and hope it was just something they made up but we all no we're that went so finally she was right in front of me I went to hug her she pushed me away gently so I already knew it was coming then those three words I never wanted to here came flowing out of her mouth like a hurricane. Those two heart piercing words came out of her mouth "Were Done"!   My head started to realize the words that came from her lips. I became indulged in frustration furry and sadness she was my world what would I do with out her.

So I gathered what dignity I had left up off the floor along with my now shattered heart and said "ok just as long as your happy" that's all I care about so I went to another table with the guys talked to Chris trying not to break out in a river of tears and ate my food.  The thought came back like a whiplash but I talked to my friends and they are the definition of true friends they helped me get over it but every day I still have those flash backs of those perfect memories but it's time to lock them away forever but how my mind keeps asking me over and over how can I forget her she was my world but I know it will be ok.

Like I said something's just aren't meant to be so if you love them set them free make a bad thing turn positive I'll keep ridden on ridden on in to the sunset but this is one thing that is for sure ill ride on with no regrets were to I really don't no all I no is I will rebuild myself and become a better man sometimes we all need a change so now it's time to make a stand I'm gonna take my life change it's course for better don't look back. I'll find someone who can make me happy mamma always said there are plenty of fish in the sea so I'm gonna sail free and find that special fish no matter how big this sea is I'll find that fish for me.

I know it was a complete mistake trust me I'd take it back I'd go to hell and  back just to win you again I'd give my life to hold you for just one more night oh you have no clue what I would do I understand your gone baby but it drives me crazy just promise me you will never forget us and all the time we spent together all of our laughs I no you felt abandoned but baby you turned me off like the push of a button you like to use those words as a weapon so rid the pictures from your wall and throw them away watch them burn Barry them six feet under and get away as fast as you can but your like the drug I can't stop taken and to you it don't mean nothin but baby to me you were my every thing and more I wanted nothing more than to be the man you wanted me to be but now all that is left is bitter sweet memories.

So maybe this is good for me I realized I need time to find who the true me is then I can truly be happy I guess. I the. Decided to move on I found someone and tried to make it work I guess I'm a failure at relationships I made a commitment to my self to never love again you might ask why and it's because I'm afraid to get hurt and maybe I am a fool for falling for girls but I think I have finally learned that the heart break for you was one more mistake I could have given my heart to someone who could have taken care of it and that's what I am going to do I will never trust someone like you.

In other words maybe this story can help you in a similar situation with relationships I tend to avoid certain conflict because I don't like drama I hate fighting and I don't like being treated like I'm nothing but dirt. My heart is very delicate imagine glass if it drops or heats or cools to much it cracks well that's like my heart were there was love there is an empty hole. You put one in the chamber  and as I fell you laughed and my heart shattered as if made of glass that will be the last time I trust any one.  The hardest part was to realize she was out of my life what was I going to do I couldn't let them see me cry I'd be the laughing stock of the entire school I decided to wait until I got home I couldn't wait for the last five minutes I ran and grabbed my things and ran out the door for the front tuner station and I started to turn in to a walking fire hydrant my tears soaked my new shirt I was so embarrassed.
